Rain

Some bemoan the rain.
Others go to the house of Tom Bombadil.

    1. Well, it has indeed been a sweet weekend - so I thank you. As for JRRT, me too although I haven't been to Middle Earth in over 20 years - apart from when the movie came out which I didn't enjoy. I much prefer the BBC Radio 4 version with the late and very great John Le Mesurier as Bilbo. That said, they also missed out the peculiar House Of Bombadil.

  4. with you on all points here m'friend......and yes.....the Hobbit trilogy, the movie I mean, big disappointment......hard to capture such brilliant scope, maybe impossible, I imagine, in a three hour film....or three 3 hour films, whatever it was.........

glad the day is being good to you m'dear.......mine was too......sweet night with some friends around a fire......nothin' better.........

    warmest always,
    Liz

    1. CGI can't, thank goodness, compete with the imagination.

Three hours? Felt like three days to me.

Any way, the weekend spills over into the week and we are enjoying beautiful, burnished September days fit for Bilbo's birthday. Hope all is well with you...

  5. ...and some, a few of us, welcome the rain (temporarily at least) after a summer here of 40C temperatures. I'm afraid I'm totally allergic to Tolkien though, after having been forced to read Lord of the Rings in order to publicise the release of the first paperback version of the trilogy at the end of the 1960s (I worked for George Allen & Unwin at the time - my first job).

    1. Wow, sounds like a great first job. But being forced to read the book, I can see why that would put you off. Loved your snowy mountain photo, Nick.
